After many trails and tribulations geo hot has finally released the exploit which allows user to have full control over the ps3,but lo behold this doesn't mean pirated ps3 games can be played on the ps3 any sooner,geohot has just managed to get through a layer of security found in the system whereas Sony has placed many layers of security protocols so that the system can never be hacked so what geo hot claims to have done here is indeed an hack but this will only get you past the hypervisor.
For people who don't know about the hyper visor it is just a low level code found in the ps3 and xbox 360 which is used to constantly monitor several access to the hardware and also keeps a tight check on the operating system.it is a crucial component ,when hypervisor encounters a code that shouldn't be there in the memory it calls a function to zap the code out so that it could never be run,if you can control the hypervisor you can stop it from calling any other functions that will total your code and hence you can make it run in the memory.
People who are waiting for the ps3 game rips to be released on torrents will have to wait for quite a long time since the ps3 hasn't been totally hacked it has only been done so partially.what happened now is just a ripple effect if some one much more technically inclined and interested in hacking the ps3 will now have a beacon which will guide them to crack the entire system.
